McSpadden Family Cemetery Fence
Donation protected
This reunion provides a good incentive for us to replace the McSpadden cemetery fence.
Several years ago, limbs from an old maple tree fell, damaging the family cemetery fence. Granddaddy wanted to repair it, but it was one of the few things we never got around to fixing. A few years after Granddaddy died, the rest of the tree crashed down on the fence.
Currently, our family cemetery, located behind the McSpadden farmhouse, is in terrible shape, and is an eyesore to its neighbors.
I asked a Wilson County handy man to provide a bid on what it would cost to repair the fence. He was highly recommended by the current owner of the McSpadden farmhouse. Instead of replacing two sides of the chain link fence, he recommended replacing the entire chain link fence with a cedar fence. This would provide a very nice upgrade to a chain link fence.
The cost to replace the damaged chain link fence with a cedar fence is $1,200, including materials and labor. This is extremely reasonable. Replacing half of the chain link fence may cost less, but not by much.
I know the McSpadden cemetery meant a lot to Granddaddy, and to Uncle Robert. They were very close to the McSpaddens. I have helped with landscaping at the cemetery for over 25 years, and I’m seen no evidence of any other McSpadden descendants that have maintained the cemetery.
We are asking family members to pitch in to help with the cost of the new fence. Suggested donations: $50 to $100, and more if you are feeling generous.
The builder will begin work soon, so that the fence will be installed in time for the reunion.
The cost to replace the fence is $1,200, and we estimate that there will be about $50 in fees for GoFundMe.
Important: If you plan to donate by check, please let us must know immediately, so that we can deduct your donation from the total cost that is being raised and tracked on GoFundMe.
This fundraiser will cease once we reach $1,250. We hope everyone has an opportunity to donate, even family members that are not able to attend the reunion. Finally, if you pay by check, please write “fence” in the subject field.
We appreciate your help in bringing dignity back to our family cemetery.
