My name is Samantha! I'm a single mom of two beautiful and absolutely amazing kiddos! My son, Aiden, is 6 and my daughter, Tatum is 3! I was diagnosed with breast cancer on 9/11/15 after finding a lump 2 weeks before! After being told over and over that it was nothing to worry about the the confirmation that it was cancer was completely devastating! You don't get breast cancer at 29!!!! As soon as you are diagnosed you research everything and and expect the worst will happen to you. I immediately had an MRI and scheduled an appointment with a breast surgeon and scheduled a lumpectomy for the next week! Surgery went great and I saw an oncologist the following week! My treatment will consist of one year of chemotherapy and 6.5 weeks of radiation! As much as I know it's not important I couldn't imagine being single, losing my hair and going through a bilateral mastectomy! Cancer + bald + no boobs= a trifecta of crappiness! Luckily my genetic testing came back negative so I get to keep my boobs for now!!!! Last week I got to enjoy my first of many echocardiograms and PET scans! I got my port put in this week and I get the start chemo next week!!! Woo hoo! I'm still beyond lucky!!!! I caught my cancer extremely early! Stage 1! I'm lucky enough to work with amazing people and have an amazing family and group of friends that have been supportive from day one! Plus, most importantly, my kids are healthy! I would much rather go through this for the rest of my life than to ever see one of them this sick. Chemo starts Monday! I'm not ready for the hair loss, vomiting, radiation, medical bills and all of the other allurement I have coming my way, but I'm completely ready to kick this cancers ass and get back to normal life!!!
