This morning on my way to work, I came upon an accident scene where a young man and his dog (Tony) were run over by a car. The man and the dog were lying in the middle of the road and the man who was injured himself was crawling to try to get to his dog to comfort him. It was one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful moments I have ever witnessed, and it literally brought me to tears. There was a crowd already gathered, and I could hear the sirens on their way. However, I couldn't just drive by... something made me park my car and get out. The man was rushed off to the hospital, and as he was being treated, I told him not to worry about his dog that I would take care of him. I had Tony sent to NC State's Vet Med ER. Soon after I received a call that his injuries were life-threatening, and he needed surgery. I had to make a call on the spot to spend $1,000 for a CT Scan to see if he could even have surgery. I didn't hesitate, and I told them to go ahead and do the CT Scan. The good news is that his bladder was intact and he is having surgery tomorrow. The bad news is that he has a broken pelvis and humerus, and the surgery is $10,000 (not including after care). I just couldn't have this poor dog put down 8 days before Christmas, so I agreed to be responsible for Tony's vet bills. An Angel (named Nancy) who is the Pastor at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church was at the scene as well, we exchanged numbers, and she has offered to raise $5,000 through her church. If you have the financial means to help out, I would greatly appreciate any amount you could give. If you don't have the financial means, please share this and keep Tony in your prayers. Pray that he has a successful surgery tomorrow and that he is reunited with his owner for Christmas. Thank you!
