McClure Elementary's Science Grant

Alexander K. McClure is located in the Hunting Park neighborhood of North Philadelphia. We are a Pre-K-5 Title I school and our 689 students; our population consists of 62% Latino, 30% African-American and 8% other.
Currently our Science program is primarily literacy based; we integrate science content into our literacy lessons. Although we strive to keep student interest high and content at the forefront, due to a lack of funding, we have not been able to update our science materials. It has been a challenge for both the students and teachers to maintain success with inadequate materials and resources which are all so critical to student exploration and understanding of content.
We have received a $25,000 matching grant from the Neubauer Family Foundation to replenish all of our science materials and offer STEM experiences for our students. Our task is to raise half ($12,500) of the funds and the Neubauer Family Foundation will match our efforts.
The purpose of the project is to address the lack of resources and materials, to develop staff on materials and processes, to engage parents and guardians in the Science/STEM curriculum, and to engage students through relevant content, hands on materials and expose students to opportunities and structures to support STEM careers.
Although we will purchase for all grade levels, below is a sample of what we will purchase for our Kindergarten classes:

- Ant Life Cycle Models $6.99 x 4 = $27.96
