MC Gran Fondo 22: cycling for refugees & migrants

ABOUT THE CAUSE

Meet MigraCode (MC): a tech academy (bootcamp) for refugees and migrants in Barcelona. This program, organised by the NGO Open Cultural Center, offers a free 8-month code course to people who have a migration background and face unequal access to the labour market. After the students have graduated, MigraCode also supports her graduates in finding a job in the tech sector.

THE GRAN FONDO FUNDRAISER

The aim of this fundraiser event is to raise enough money to fund a complete MigraCode course supporting 16-18 students from vulnerable communities through free tech education and other additional support that our program offers. That means that together with all the participants of the fundraiser, we want to reach the magic number of 15.000 euros to sponsor one full group of students!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

During a sports fundraiser, an individual or a group of people choose a sports challenge to raise money for a good cause, in this case MigraCode. The idea is that instead of asking for donations, each individual will actually make a (huge) effort to create awareness about the cause while also raising money for it. Participants can share the fundraiser with friends, colleagues and family and ask them to make a small donation!

DETAILS OF THE CHALLENGE

Like last year's edition, the MigraCode Gran Fondo lets participants choose between 3 different routes to ride, each route adjusted to the fitness levels of participants. All routes start and finish in Ripoll (Catalan Pyrenees). Routes are between 90 and 220 kilometers, and between 1500 and 4000 meters of elevation difference.
