Mc CREEDY FAMILY FARM DESTROYED
On Wednesday night Dec. 15 hurricane force winds hit southwestern Iowa leaving a trail of destruction from the Omaha area across the state of Iowa. Atlantic, Iowa was hit very hard, including the farm homestead of the Mc Creedy's. The farm was completely destroyed except the family house.
Every building on the farm was completely flattened with all the contents lost. The cattle and horses scattered far and wide. While all the animals have been gathered on of the horses continues to need veterinary care. All the hay and feed for the livestock and horses are gone. Fences sucked away like a ribbon, gone!
Taylor Mc Creedy's, a student at Iowa Central College studying animal science, had her horse trailer lifted and thrown from the farm landing in the neighbors filed. The debris field from the event is over a mile and a half long.
This summer Cody, a senior at Iowa State University studying to be a high school history teacher, completely rebuilt one of the buildings into a shop and storage building. It took him over a year to reside and re-roof the building and redo the interior. That project is now flattened.
Insurance will play a very minimal, if any, a factor in this family tragedy. The year prior the family and their crops were leveled by the Dececho. That event and now the tornado that took all that was left of the family farm places them in an incredibly tough financial position.
The Mc Creedy's are small family farmers. Mom Shelby is a Resource Officer for the Iowa Highway Patrol. Dad, Marty works for the State of Iowa as a Fire Inspector and was in law enforcement prior. The family has always put others first through volunteering. Cody is active in Meal on Wheels in his community of Atlantic. He was a volunteer umpire for girls' softball leagues this summer and worked in the Iowa State legislature for Representative Latham.
This family gives so much. Please help give them something to be happy about this Christmas. The recovery will be long and will take a lot financially to get them back on their feet.
