President Obama launched My Brother's Keeper (MBK) in February 2014 to address persistent opportunity gaps facing boys and young men of color and ensure all youth can reach their full potential.

One of the critical components of MBK is mentorship. The MBK founders believe in and understand mentors' power in facilitating positive educational and developmental outcomes for Black and Latino boys and young men. In concert with this belief, we have established a UMASS Boston (UMB) MBK chapter. Beginning in the Spring 2021 semester, UMB MBK students will be involved in mentoring, professional development, academic support, and cultural empowerment programming both on campus and beyond. We have a group of advisors, mentors, and professionals eagerly awaiting meeting and supporting our first class of UMB MBK students.

An external opportunity has presented itself for me to travel to Ghana to initiate a partnership with Ghana communities and leaders. This association will allow us to create bridges for our young men to interact and visit West Africa.  We were fortunate to receive an introduction to some of the Ghanian leaders from the A.D. King Foundation, Atlanta, GA, ahead of this trip.

COVID-19 Tests costs upon arrival in Ghana - $150

My travel date is December 23, 2020 - January 4, 2021; I need to raise funds as soon as possible to take advantage of this opportunity.

Upon return, I will post a full report of the contacts I was able to make and share
plans for how our UMB MBK cohorts will benefit from this initiative.
