Brooke's Road to Recovery

My name is Sasha Heavey and Brooke Murphy has been my best friend since childhood. I hope the following provides a glimpse into what recently happened to her, the challenges she is facing – as well as the truly amazing person she is and why she deserves our help at this difficult time.

On January 17th, Brooke suffered a rare brain aneurysm, especially for a healthy 43-year-old. She was rushed to the emergency room at UMass Memorial in Worcester where she had emergency brain surgery. She was then transferred to the ICU, subsequently suffered a stroke and has faced additional surgeries. Brooke will endure long-term physical therapy and of course, a myriad of financial challenges will follow.

Brooke is described as a hard-working, loyal, and genuine person who has been raising her three children while working two jobs for the past 25+ years. She is known for her kindness, compassion, and wonderful character. Her work ethic is demonstrated by her jobs at Price Chopper in Shrewsbury during the day and as a waitress at Romaine’s in Northboro at night.

I am setting up this GoFundMe initiative as a means of reaching out on behalf of Brooke and her family - requesting the assistance that can only be achieved through the kindness and generosity of friends and our communities. If you are in a position to contribute, it would be an enormous help.

This assistance is especially needed because Brooke will be unable to work for the foreseeable future as she weathers this painful, life-altering event. Your love and support will go a long way in offsetting the tremendous expenses that she will continue to incur – ambulances, surgical/hospital/medical bills, unpaid leave from work, future rehabilitation, rent, groceries, utilities - and so much more that we likely cannot fathom at this moment.
