Please help me. I am a mess. Sorry, I have a mess. What I mean is, I have MS. I do think that whoever named this a mess has either a sick sense of humour or they saw into my future. I am a 49 year old woman who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis when I was 8 months pregnant with my beautiful daughter. I was terrified I wouldn’t get to meet her so I had an elective caesarean because we had lost our son at 18 weeks about 2 years before.

I was continually relapsing at the beginning, so to give my body a break and to enable me to learn how to stand up and (kind of) walk again, I was given a course of chemotherapy. This was 17 years ago. I did learn to stand and to walk (kind of) with a stick but I now have to use the wheelchair most of the time. My tremors are so bad that I struggle to feed myself:or pick anything up and I fall over several times a day and am so bruised I look like a battered zombie. When I decided I wanted to become a mummy, this wasn’t what I had in mind!

I am desperate to leave the house under my own steam. At the moment, I can’t even get into my own garden without asking somebody for help. I can’t remember the last time I went to a shop on my own or even the last day I didn’t fall over! Realistically, I need my whole house being made disabled-friendly but foremost I ask for help buying a scooter so I can actually get in the fresh air on my own terms, without relying on everyone else. I have always taught my children to laugh in the face of adversity, but sometimes it is hard to even raise a smile. I have got to the point where I can’t cope and am desperate for outside help.
