On March 20th 2025, Mazi and Luke were woken by police and forced to evacuate their home which had caught fire due to an electrical issue. Mazi and Luke were able to safely leave their home (with their dog and two cats) as the apartment—on the top floor of the building—was completely engulfed in flames and destroyed. Fire, smoke and water destroyed and/or damaged the majority of the remaining top floor of the building, the main floor of Luke and Mazi's home and the ground floor apartment unit. Art, personal belongings, the building structure, clothes, food... almost everything they owned was destroyed or damaged by fire, smoke and/or water.

Currently they are staying out of the home (which has been deemed uninhabitable) and dealing with a slew of insurance issues in an attempt to wrap their head around the damage and figure out a plan to move forward. They are set to be married in August and are now tasked with (literally) rebuilding their lives.

My name is Ricky and Mazi is my best friend. She's an artist, a dancer and a light in every room. Luke is one of the best men I've had the pleasure of meeting, constantly surrounds himself with positive people and is currently finishing up school to become a chiropractor. Nobody deserves to live through something like this but I mean it when I say... this is a really terrible thing that happened to two very good people.

I am raising money to assist with food, pet food, room and board (they're currently unsure where they'll be staying), and to allow them to purchase new clothing so they can go to work to make the money they need to replace everything they've lost.
