Mayte Sanchez' 3rd Cancer Battle

Hey there, I'm Bri and I'm creating this Gofundme for my mom, Mayte Sanchez, for her 3rd battle with cancer.

On January 25, 2008, she was given the news that she was diagnosed with cervical cancer while she was pregnant with my little brother, Lukas. The day he was born, she had a C-section to deliver him and and a radical hysterotomy to remove the cancer. Unfortunately, the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes which meant that she had to do chemo and radiation treatment. A newborn, cancer, and medical bills were not easy but my mom is a fighter and she fought day by day. Through the support of family and friends, she made it past the first battle.

In September of 2009, the cancer had come back. Another battle. More treatment. More medical bills. Another fight. The day that she received the news, her picture was shown at the Stand Up to Cancer telethon while Billie Joe Armstrong sang "Wake Me Up When September Ends."

She thought that the second time would be the last. She took us to Disney World before her battle as a final happy memory in case she lost this fight. She even wrote a goodbye journal for my dad.

With more medical bills meant more bbq fundraisers and even a bake sale that went viral. People from all over the country were buying baked goods even if they couldn't receive them. The bake sale was covered on a Spanish television network.

After a long battle, she rang the bell once again to signify that she had gone into remission December 2010. But the cancer had left its mark. Surgery scars, chemo burns, loss of mobility in her arm had lead to many more hospital visits. More surgery. ER trips. Nobody tells you that going into remission is only part of the fight.

November 8, 2023, one of these medical trips was more than the usual medical complication. She was diagnosed with gastric cancer. Luckily, doctors believe that the cancer is in early stages so there is time to plan out this fight. But planning means more tests, hospital visits, and medical bills.

Currently, it looks like the plan is to remove her entire stomach. She has a new team of doctors at MD Anderson coming up with a plan of action. She's in good hands and fully has the support of her family and friends.

I'm kindly asking for your financial support for this upcoming battle. The medical bills and treatments have already begun and it will only get harder going forward. The money will go to any and all medical bills as well as towards Mayte's family.

My mom is the toughest fighter I know. She has taught my brothers and me what it means to be strong. She's given speeches at cancer summits and talked to Gwyneth Paltrow about her story. I'm thankful that she has been there for me and my brothers while we grow up. Thank you for any and all support.
