Maye Water's Funeral & Memorial Fund
Donation protected
On February 27, 2022, what we thought would be a normal Sunday evening turned into a tragic farewell as our dearly beloved Maye Angel Water passed away just two months away from her 24th birthday. While some of us knew Maye as a daughter, mother, sister, aunty, girlfriend, artist, community leader, and aspiring lawyer within the short, precious 23 years that she was alive, Maye managed to leave an unforgettable mark on so many–loved ones and strangers alike. She was undeniably a very vibrant soul full of overwhelming joy, passion, and life.
With the suddenness of Maye’s death, her funeral and memorial fund was started to help our family cover her funeral costs and contribute to the living and educational expenses of her 17-month-old baby Imani, following the passing of her dear mother Maye Angel.
Pursuing Purpose
Maye was set to graduate with her bachelor’s degree in Law & Society from York University in April 2022. After the birth of her baby Imani, Maye founded and led Imani’s Mommies, an organization designed to nurture and support young Black mothers on the nuanced path of their motherhood journey.
Championing Change
Maye recognized the barriers and lack of access to resources and supports that young Black mothers face in addition to the experience of anti-Black racism in our healthcare system, which often underserves young mothers of African and Caribbean descent. Maye believed the community and family formed by Imani’s Mommies could empower and equip her tribe to adequately parent, advocate for themselves, and represent while influencing the change she and so many others desire to see.
Leaving a Legacy
While being a full-time mom, pursuing her studies, running a non-profit, and pursuing her music career as a singer-songwriter named MAJE BLK–a childhood dream turned professional passion, Maye was a beloved alumnus of the Toronto Children's Concert Choir and Performing Arts Company (TC3) who continued to work closely alongside TC3 helping the organization and inspiring the younger generation to dream big because of TC3's impact. Maye was also a certified nail technician who was building her luxury nail spa Nail Elation. Our Angel was on a very successful path to greatness which we will sadly be unable to witness her complete. However, we believe Maye left a legacy for her daughter Imani and her loved ones to further with the seeds that she purposefully planted.
An Inspiration and Influencer
One of Maye’s main goals was to help motivate those around her to reach their full potential. Because she left her mark on so many different spheres of influence, the world will still have a piece of Maye to treasure forever.
Maye Angel Water leaves behind her mother, 7 siblings, daughter, as well as friends and extended family. At this time, we ask for you all to keep us in your prayers during this difficult time. Any amount donated will be used to support funeral expenses as well as education/living expenses and savings for her daughter. We believe everything she has accomplished will not go in vain. We will continue to keep her legacy alive through her precious daughter Imani, her music, and her organization Imani’s Mommies.
On behalf of our family, we would like to thank you in advance for your meaningful contribution and your sincere support.
