Supporting Mayelin after the loss of her husband.

My name is Carla Ferris. I represent a group of families that have been incredibly fortunate to have Mayelin Rodriguez as a nanny for our children. We are now fundraising for Mayelin and her ten-year-old daughter as they find their footing after the tragic loss of Mayelin's husband, Carlos, in October of 2022.

Carlos was a devoted husband and father who worked hard to provide for his family. In the spring of 2022, he began to experience nausea and indigestion of increasing severity. Over a two-month period, he sought emergency medical care for his symptoms on multiple occasions. He was repeatedly told that he had an ulcer, and was not referred for additional testing. At long last, he was able to secure an appointment with a gastroenterologist. It was at this time that he and his family received the devastating news that he had metastatic stomach cancer.

Through surgery, chemotherapy, and all of the emotions, symptoms, and indignities that come with advanced cancer, Mayelin stayed by Carlos' side. She dedicated herself to his care and comfort. His loss was, and is, excruciating.

Mayelin and her daughter are struggling not only with the loss of a beloved husband and father, but they must also cope with the financial hardships that come with that loss. Mayelin and Carlos both worked to provide for their family, but Mayelin must now carry that burden alone.

Mayelin has done so much for so many people. We humbly ask for your help in lifting Mayelin up in this time of need. Donated funds will help Mayelin to cover basic expenses such as rent, food, and clothing for herself and her daughter while Mayelin makes plans for the long term. Although Mayelin is working, it is a challenge to cover these expenses on one income instead of two. Your support is deeply appreciated by Mayelin and those that love her.
