Maya Chan is the current 2017 Women's Youth B (ages 13 and 14) Norton National Champion in luge and a member of the 2017-18 USA Luge National Junior C Team. She discovered luge in the summer of 2014 at a USA Luge slider search in Chicago that led to her selection as a USA Luge National Junior D Team member for the 2015-16 season. For the past two seasons, she has trained exclusively in Lake Placid, New York. This upcoming season, she and her teammates will be representing the USA at international competitions in North America at tracks in Whistler, Calgary, Park City, and Lake Placid. She has her vision set on rising through the levels of USA Luge teams in hopes of representing the United States at future Olympic and World Cup competitions.
Please help support Maya as she trains and competes this season at the four North American tracks, including the Olympic Training Center and luge track in Lake Placid, New York. Collected funds will be used to pay for coaching, lodging/food, equipment, transportation, tutoring, dues, and race entry fees. Neither the United States Luge Association nor the United States Olympic Committee provide direct financial support for candidate team athletes, so all athletes are self-funded. All unused funds will be used for future seasons or donated to USA Luge to support the organization and other athletes.
Maya will be training at the North American tracks for approximately fifteen weeks this year over eight trips. During the season, she will be competing in the NorAm Luge Championships representing the USA and the 2018 Norton Youth National Championships. When she is away from training camps, she will continue with strength training and cross-training as a rower with the Chicago Rowing Foundation.
If you wish to make a donation through Maya's Amateur Athlete Training Fund at USA Luge, please contact Beverly Detwiler at 518-523-2071 ext. 107 or [email redacted].
Our family truly appreciates your generosity and support of Maya through this wonderful opportunity. Thank you for helping.
