The Benjamin Bus Project

Benjamin, and over 100 other disabled students like him cannot attend school on a regular basis.  Why?  There is only ONE school available for students that have physical and/or learning difficulties. That school is located miles from their rural homes in and around Lake Atitlan, Guatemala.       There is NO transportation provided for them, as we are accustomed to in the United States. The parents of these children, often single mothers, can not afford the cost of using  public transportation to the ONE school designed for Special Needs children in Panajachel,  near Lake Atitlan, Guatemala.  Some of these children live miles from the school, in rural poverty,  and are unable to travel alone. Many are confined to wheel chairs and are unable to use the public buses or tuk-tuks because they are not adapted for their use.       Working with a non-profit in Panajachel, Guatemala (Caminos de Esperanza), we are asking for your support in the purchase of 3 specially adapted passenger vans to transport students from and around Lake Atitlan.        More information on Caminos de Esperanza can be found on their web site: http://acopedis.org.gt/caminos-de-esperanza Also, you may contact Charla Wistos for more information [email redacted]
