Hi, our names are Amanda and Ceri and we are fundraising for our best friends daughter, Maya.

Our friendship with Holly began at the age of 11 and is still going strong 25 years later - we are all more like family than friends. As we have all grown together we have had our own babies, the first was Maya. At the age of 14, Maya was getting ready to start preparing for her GCSE's and enjoying her teenage years. But then last week happened.

For those that don't know, last Thursday Maya and her family received the news that Maya was being diagnosed with Leukaemia. Her diagnosis is ALL, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, a type of blood cancer. Things have moved very fast over the last week, we cannot even begin to imagine what this has been like for Maya, Holly and her family, the worst nightmare to come true!

Maya has been so incredibly brave and courageous since diagnosis and beyond. At the moment Maya and Holly are based at Bristol Children's Hospital, which is where she will stay for the coming weeks, while she is undergoing chemotherapy. She has just had her first intensive round of chemotherapy and will be having immunotherapy plus many other treatments to help fight her ALL. Maya's fight will continue for atleast 2 years. During these uncertain times, Maya and her family will need to attend many hospital appointments, they will basically be living at the hospital whilst trying to hold down the fort at home. At this stage we have our fingers crossed that Maya will be able to return home for Christmas to be with all of her family and especially her younger sister Ruby, who is trying to carry on as normal at home.

Amongst everything else there is the added pressure of finances, funding things like travel, food, things that Maya needs whilst away and general expenses which will go in hand with this process. At the moment, Holly is employed but is having to take unpaid leave so has no wage coming in. Likewise, Maya's Grandmother Karen and her Auntie Livvy are struggling due to their hotel business not working out. As a family, they all worked so hard to create their business, this venture was plagued by Covid and ultimately things spiralled to the point of bankruptcy and now they risk losing their home. There is no money!

Now Maya is sick, life is truly testing the family and will continue to test them for some time.
