Hace 11 años, mi hermana Gabriella conoció a una perrita mientras hacía voluntariado en un albergue.

Desde entonces, Maya ha estado con Gabi en todo: en la universidad, en su primer trabajo como técnica veterinaria, y ahora, mientras estudia en escuela de veterinaria. Son inseparables.

En diciembre de 2024, Maya fue diagnosticada con melanoma oral. Fue operada, recibió inmunoterapia y se recuperó. Pensamos que lo peor ya había pasado…

Hasta que, esta semana, Maya comenzó a tener dificultad para defecar.

Lo que parecía ser un simple estreñimiento resultó ser algo mucho más serio.

Un examen reveló una masa pélvica de 5 x 4 cm que presiona su colon. No sabíamos si era operable, pero sabíamos que Maya no iba a poder sobrevivir mucho más tiempo con esa masa sin poder evacuar.

En 1 semana han hecho radiografías, ultrasonido, citología, electrocardiogramas, análisis de sangre… todo lo que se puedan imaginar. Y finalmente, un CT scan.

Todo esto en menos de una semana.

Gabi ha gastado más de $4,000 dólares de su préstamo estudiantil, sin saber si Maya iba a sobrevivir… o si iba a tener que tomar una de las decisiones más difíciles de su vida.

Pero hoy, por fin, llegaron buenas noticias:

La masa es localizada, operable y no es relacionada al cancer que Maya luchó ya en enero. Maya tiene una oportunidad real de vivir.

Mañana (2/mayo/2025) entra a cirugía, lo que incurrirá sobre $4,000 adicionales.

 But today, we finally got good news: The mass is localized, operable, and not related to the cancer Maya already fought earlier this year. Maya has a real chance to live. Tomorrow (May 2, 2025) she goes into surgery — which will cost an additional $4,000 or more. That’s why we created this GoFundMe: to help cover the remaining costs for her surgery and post-operative care.
