Rebuilding Hope for Maya Family After Loss

On behalf of my family, I, Maria Tenen, never imagined I would be reaching out to our community in such a heartbreaking way. On the morning of January 17, 2025, our lives were shattered by a devastating fire that ripped through our home in Riverdale, Georgia. My husband and I had just finished paying off our house, a place filled with memories, and now it's gone. The fire claimed not only our home but also the life of my beloved husband, Jose Adolfo Maya Soberanes. He went back into the house, trying to save our dogs, but tragically, he didn’t make it out. This loss has left us with nothing—no home, no personal belongings, no sense of stability. The grief is overwhelming, and on top of that, we now face funeral expenses that we never could have prepared for. We have called Riverdale home for over 35 years, and now, in this dark time, we turn to the friends and neighbors we’ve long cherished for help. Even the smallest donation can help us begin the painful journey of rebuilding our lives. My hope is that, as a community, we can come together to ease some of this burden, allowing us to focus on healing, rebuilding, and grieving.

En nombre de mi familia, yo, María Tenén, nunca imaginé que estaría pidiendo apoyo a nuestra comunidad de una manera tan desgarradora. La mañana del 17 de enero del 2025, un devastador incendio que arrasó nuestra casa en Riverdale, Georgia, destrozó nuestras vidas. Nuestra familia acababa de terminar de pagar la hipoteca de nuestra casa, un lugar lleno de recuerdos, y ahora ya no quedo nada. El incendio no solo se llevó nuestra casa, sino también la vida de mi amado esposo, José Adolfo Maya Soberanes. Él regresó a la casa para intentar salvar a nuestros perros, pero trágicamente, no logró salir. Esta pérdida nos ha dejado sin nada: sin hogar, sin pertenencias, sin estabilidad. El dolor es abrumador y, además, ahora enfrentamos gastos funerarios que nunca podríamos haber previsto. Riverdale ha sido nuestro hogar durante más de 35 años, y ahora, en estos momentos difíciles, recurrimos a nuestros amigos y vecinos que tanto apreciamos en busca de ayuda. Incluso la donación más pequeña puede ayudarnos a comenzar el doloroso camino de reconstruir nuestras vidas. Espero que, como comunidad, podamos unirnos para aliviar parte de esta carga, permitiéndonos centrarnos en la sanación, la reconstrucción y el duelo.
