Hi, my name is Maya Waryas and I am a freshman at Saint Josephs College in Maine. Field hockey is my passion and I've been lucky enough to play it most of my life. I come from a small, rural VT town with an amazing community. Our little team with our grass field took us to the state championship game all 4 years I played! I was named the VT Player of the Year by USA Today and then suffered an injury that made my playing in our Senior year questionable. I played with stitches and a glove for most of that season. It reminded me how much I love the sport of FH! I chose Saint Joe's because of the supportive community feeling on campus and the excellent academic programs. They also have a FH team and I finished my season by breaking 3 school records, being named the school's Rookie of the Year, Conference Rookie of the Year and making the All-Region all-star team. It was amazing and I am grateful for my coaches and teammates!
As a result of this season, I have been invited to play internationally with a collegiate tour team in Australia this summer! I've never played travel Field Hockey and this season was my first season on turf. This is an amazing opportunity and I am grateful for all who have cheered me on along the way. This is an expense we didn't plan on and I'm thankful for any help you can offer me to make this amazing opportunity happen. I will also be holding some field hockey clinics this Spring, both in Maine and in my hometown in VT. Thank you for your support!
