Maya was saved by Pibblesnchis 10/21/22. Her shelter paperwork described her as an 8-year old stray so much of her history is unknown to us. But she arrived to me (my first foster) gentle, calm, and immediately affectionate. We all fell for her instantly. Even after one month of decompression, though, her energy levels were still low and a recent heartworm test confirmed our fears. Maya is suffering from both microflaria and antigen (female worms) which means she has been infected for many months, possibly longer.
Heartworm treatment is an intensive, uncomfortable and long process, but the success rate is high. Postponing treatment could increase the risk of damage to her heart and lungs so the need to act quickly is essential. We are devastated that Maya is going through this but are pulling together and doing whatever we can to allow for a recovery.
Maya has a village supporting her – with so many of us already in love with her – but the path she has ahead of her will be a challenging one; the treatment is uncomfortable; she’ll have to remain crated for weeks: the financial weight is significant. If you are able to help in any way (even $2), we would be forever grateful. And whether or not you are able to donate please do keep Maya in your thoughts. Thank you for your support!
Sincerely, Cara (foster) & Pibblesnchis (Rescue)
