This hurts me to post this. I never thought I would be in this position, but Max is family and my kids' best friend. On Friday October 27th, I made an appointment at our vet (Lafayette Animal Hospital) in Portsmouth for Max's eye (my 8 year old American Eskimo). It was pink and he could barely open it. He ended up having pink eye, but that is not the reason for this post.
As I was shuffling the kids and max into the vet, I opened the door to let my kids inside. I told them to go sit in the waiting room. A Dog in the parking lot started barking at him and he got scared. He ended up slipping out of his collar and running across the parking lot in to Route 1. I yelled at him to stop and come back. He stopped, looked at me, so I went around the corner to retrieve him. He got scared again and continued running into Route 1. A Jeep Wrangler clipped his back legs. She knew she hit him and continued driving. I did not get a license plate. Max ended up getting his legs out from her tire and limping to me. I picked him up and when I did, I was covered in his blood. I assumed that was the end for him and prepared to put him down. However, no broken bones and no internal damages. A lot of blood loss, some joint issues etc. he needed to be operated on immediately. They ended up taking a toe, and he may also need further amputation(s). Unknown at this time. He is doing well now, but we are in the hole $4100 so far. He will need further medication and treatments to ensure no further damages or infection(s). I would never ask for help if we truly did not need it. He is alive and that's all that matters❤️ thank you so much, all our love - the Toracinta family.
