**UPDATE - Friday, Dec 15**
We get to pick Max up today from Dr Imhoff!
He’s well enough to come home (tubes are taken out), but he still needs his recovery time and we will bring him back to Dr Imhoff this weekend to check that he’s healing well. Hart and I will have to be by Max’s side day and night for the next two weeks while he recovers and is on a strict timeline of medications.
Thank you to Dr. Imhoff for going out of his way to watch over and monitor Max the last two nights and days, instead of Hart and I having to take Max back to the night ER for night shift.
Now to a hopeful speedy recovery to Max ❤️
**UPDATE - Thursday, Dec 14**
Max has suffered from 3 extreme coyote bite tears through this chest the size of the surgeon’s index finger. They went through the ribs and separated the muscles and ribs, so these extensive wounds, after surgery, are in the healing state, but blood is still coming through his tubes so these will take time to hopefully heal. He also has four broken ribs.
He had open chest surgery on Wednesday, Dec 13 to clean out his entire chest and mend all of the extensive internal damage. Dr Imhoff mentioned his external wounds were only the tip of the iceberg with what he found internally. He also mentioned he had to let the external wounds stay open so he can heal from the inside out and so no air or bacteria gets trapped inside. The big concern is the bacteria from the coyotes that could still infect him, but Dr Imhoff is watching him by the hour.
He’s had to be in an oxygen kennel for 2 days and 3 nights, and today Thursday, Dec 14 they were able to take him off the oxygen which is good news. He will need to spend at least one or two more nights in extensive care, but we are hoping with his street dog energy, he fights through to a speedy recovery and can come home soon
MONDAY, DECEMBER 11 - Night:
Hart and I were settling into bed, until we heard loud screams outside and quickly opened our bedroom window to find four coyotes dragging Max up the backyard to take him away. Luckily opening the windows and screaming, scared the coyotes away and we quickly went out to get Max. He was covered in snow, feces, and blood when we brought him in, and then we sadly saw while we were checking his body that he was breathing out of a punctured hole in his chest.
We took him to the night ER, where they found multiple puncture wounds around his chest and back, four broken ribs, and has had him on an IV of medications to stabilise him through the night. This first night started at $3,000 and this morning we need to bring him to another vet to wait all day in an oxygen chamber, go back to the night ER tonight, and then have a full chest surgery tomorrow. Any help and love to help our little Bali dog Max recover from this traumatising event would be so helpful and appreciated. He’s just our little island dog trying to make it big in this wild mountain town
