Max's European Cycling Ambitions

After working hard on progressing as a rider on the national scene over the past 1.5 years racing with local team Tandem Co. and achieving strong results in races such as the New Zealand Cycle Classic, Tour of Southlands and Grafton to Inverell, I'm lucky enough to have been offered a stagiaire (guest) spot on the UCI Continental team X-Speed United, starting in late August for 3 months. I will be based in Belgium, racing UCI-graded events in Countries such as Belgium, Romania, Bulgaria and more. This is an opportunity I am incredibly grateful for, and if realised would mean I can put myself in front of Continental teams with the hope of picking up a contract.

However, as you could imagine funding a trip like this is not easy - Flights, accommodation, rider levies and living expenses very quickly add up. Despite working as much as I can while studying and training, I'm unable to single-handedly fund myself while racing. Any financial assistance, no matter how big or small, will be greatly appreciated and I will endeavour to make the most of any opportunity that comes from it.

Cycling is a sport I am incredibly passionate about; not just the physicality of training and racing, but also the mental and social aspects. The bike has helped me too many times to count and I hope one day to make it my profession.
