As some of you may know, 7 months ago our little tank Maximus became partially paralyzed the day after Christmas due to IVDD, requiring immediate emergency spinal surgery. After a successful surgery, recovery, and rest, he began walking again two months later thanks to the expertise of our incredible neurologist at ACCESS South Bay Specialty Animal Hospital.

Unfortunately on his 5th birthday this year, Max began to experience severe twitching in his neck causing him to tremble and shake from the severe pain. After relying on pain medication in the hopes that it would subside, unfortunately the pain continued. After two weeks it was official that he would need another IVDD surgery- this time in his neck. The first surgery ran about $13,000 and this most recent surgery will run about $11,000. While we of course have health insurance, two surgeries of this magnitude in a single year can be incredibly difficult.
