Maximus Doolan

As many of you may or may not know our boy Maximus doolan age 14 ,was born at 34.5 weeks premature due to featal growth , born weighing 3lbs 11oz ,also being born with a heart defect and wet lungs he had to be rushed to neonatal unit for emergency observations, 24 hours later they come around to me and say unfortunately we have some bad news Maximus was born also with and imperfect anus , what did all of this mean ….. they then said we have a critical care unit about to take him for his 1 of many operations that would last 5-6 hours depending on what they can do at this time. Max under went his first surgery, where they brought his bowel on to the surface of his stomach and made a stoma. 3 weeks old he was strong enough to under go MRI scans and tests echocardiogram,ultrasound,colonoscopy,to see if his heart would need any surgery amazingly it was a hole in his heart that over time closed on its own. Age 5 weeks max had another operation to make a back passage so he was able to eventually try and Pooh from his bottom, unfortunately after many months of dialysing his back passage to strengthen it, he was rapidly loosing weight he went down to 2lbs 10oz no matter what we done and put into place he just couldn’t gain weight due to the outcome of the stoma eventually back in intensive care wires ,tubes everywhere he managed to start gaining weight with the help of stoma nurse and surgeons. He had been intolerant to soya , dairy and wheat and had to be put On a specialist milk. After 14 years of his life 26 surgeries later and his now on another emergency waiting list as his Anorectal colostomy Enma has Fail so now all they can offer is a shunt or a stoma like any child his age he said no to the stoma and would like to try the shunt a tube that resembles a screw type tube to help his bowel empty, he’ll still be on his medication for life but if this fails he will be heartbroken and be left with a stoma again, One thing he would like to do is support and raise money to help other babies and children born with a defect like himself ,

Maximus is now going to abseil down the custard factory Birmingham on Saturday 5th October 2024,

All money raised will go towards the neonatal units at Birmingham women’s and childrens hospital to help children born with defects.
