Maxen's Diabetic Alert Dog
Donation protected
http://www.diabeticalertdogsofamerica.com/service On January 13, 2016, our four year old son Maxen was admitted to CHOP and diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes (Type 1). Maxen's life changed forever and we are all trying our best to adjust to this new normal. With every meal or high blood sugar, Maxen needs to be given an injection of insulin to maintain appropriate levels of blood sugar. This means at the very least, he takes four shots a day. He also needs to prick his finger at least five or six times a day to check his blood sugar numbers. He's coping with highs and lows and learning what it "feels" like to have those highs and lows. We would love for Maxen to have a positive, motivating, and rewarding force during this rough transition and throughout his journey with this disease. Which leads us to the point of this page.. A diabetic alert dog! They are absolutely amazing for young kids with this disease; and are without a doubt life saving animals. His new best friend will go with him everywhere, even sleep next to him, alerting us by his keen sense of smell when Max has a low or high blood sugar. This would also reduce the number of times he has to prick his fingers and give us a peace of mind that we lost at his diagnosis. The cost of the service dogs are extremely high because of the superior care they provide. Along with this page we will be holding a fundraiser in the near future to reach our goal. We have already been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from family and friends, and please know how much we appreciate all donations made to help our guy get his best pal. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
