Back in March, Ted Nugent posted this image of me and some much more important people on Facebook, attacking our efforts to reduce gun violence. Ted's wrong about the conspiracy - but he's right to think there is a movement in American to cut back on easy access to illegal guns. NY Daily News

I'm the cross-eyed guy in corner. It just so happens I'm wearing a bike jersey while everybody else is wearing a suit. Some things never change.
Before law school I spent four years working in Pennsylvania for common sense reforms to reduce gun violence. That effort is still going strong and it is more important than ever.
This summer, I'm packing my bike, some spandex, and my tent - and flying out to California where I'll turn around and start biking back to the east coast.
I'll be riding straight across the country, from San Francisco, CA to Washington, DC - about 3500 miles. If I can lug my body, my bike, and my gear across nine states, three timezones, and four mountain ranges - I'm hoping my friends, network, and family will contribute a buck for each mile I cover - to help push back against the NRA and legislators who stand in the way of common sense reforms to reduce gun violence.
Every single dollar I raise will go to CeaseFirePA.* You can learn about their current initiatives at http://www.ceasefirepa.org/
"But Max, I'm from [any-place-not-PA], why should I give to CeaseFirePA?" I'll tell you why. This is a fight that will be won from the ground up. Pennsylvania has been one of the most active forums for gun violence prevention policy in America. Dozens of cities have adopted local ordinances requiring missing handguns be reported to the police. Hundreds of mayors are involved. And tens of thousands of citizens have spoken up. Pennsylvania is a crack in the NRA dam against reform, and CeaseFirePA is a wedge breaking it open.
I'll be posting maps of my progress every day, so here are some ways to contribute:
1. Sponsor a day of riding, a state, or a section of road.
2. Challenge me to hit a mileage goal by the end of the day, week, or lunch.
3. Match my elevation gain as I make my way over a mountain range.
4. Pay me to post fewer pictures of road food on FB (there will be many).
5. Reward me for "eye-spy" challenges.
6. Close your eyes. Think of an number between 1 and 3500. What number did you pick? Quick! Give that.
Every dollar makes a difference when you're going up against the gun lobby. Thanks for following my trip, and thanks for lending your support for a cause that means a lot to me.

*Gofundme charges a 5% transaction fee. So does every other reliable, simple, free-to-me, fundraising site. But I'll cover that myself. If you give $18 CFPA gets $18, give $100 CeaseFirePA gets $100. You get the idea.
