Max to Marathon: Supporting Christine Fischer
Donation protected
My name is Max McNerney, and I've served as Tinman Elite's Brand Manager for the past 3 years. Despite working for one of the best running teams in the world, I've never actually trained for a race.
I've been inspired by every runner on the team, but I always seemed to have other priorities when it came to my personal fitness and running. That is until earlier this year, when we received the heartbreaking news that my good friend Christine Fischer was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer.
Christine is the wife of another good friend and professional marathoner, Reed Fischer. The two of them have been incredible friends and role models in my life since I met Reed in 2019. From living together during covid lockdown to road trips to South Dakota, I've created memories with them that will last a lifetime.
Christine's toughness, grace, and uplifting energy throughout her entire breast cancer journey has been the most inspiring thing I've witnessed in my life. So in March of this year, I decided it was finally time to take running seriously and train for a full marathon in honor of her journey.
In June, we received the incredible news that after completing her treatment plan of chemotherapy, her PET scan and MRI showed no sign of visible cancer! Christine then went out to finish out her treatment plan of 5 high doses of radiation at the end of June.
Despite being in remission, the cancer treatment and diagnosis have introduced so many new challenges that Christine and Reed will have to face as a family. I will be racing the Marine Corps Marathon on October 29th and hope to raise $5000 to continue to support Christine and Reed.
