Dear Relatives and Friends,
I am a 6th grader at Hermosa Valley School and have been nominated by my English Arts teacher, Mrs. Mary Delk, to participate in the 6 day Junior National Young Leaders Conference (www.JrNYLC.com) held in Washington D.C. Since Mrs. Delk had selected only a couple of students in all of 6th grade, this is such an honor. Last year, she did not nominate anyone. Enclosed, please find the Distinguished Alumni at Hermosa Valley School that have attended this Young Leaders Conference.
On July 8th, during the summertime, I will join other motivated students from around the country for an experiential (leadership/ career exploration) program. Interactive workshops, group simulations, and historical site visits will help me develop the key skills I need to become an effective leader: goal setting, teamwork, problem solving, and communication. Enclosed, please find the sample schedule of this Young Leaders Conference. The Keynote Speaker for this year is the living legend, Anthony Robles, who is born with one leg, but persevered and achieved greatness by winning the 2011 NCAA Division Wrestling Championship. Past speakers include Al Gore, General Colin Powell, Mitt Romney, etc. As you can see, this will be a powerful experience, enabling me to interact with respected professionals in various fields while building relationships with students who will be my future colleagues.
I am writing to you today because my Dad said that part of being a leader is “to make things happen for yourself.” He wants me to raise the funds needed to pay for my tuition. The costs are as follows:
Payment Plan Deposit Fee $49.00
Payment Plan Installment Fee $20.00
Program Photo $25.00
Program Photo Sales Tax (MD) $1.50
Program Session:
Washington, DC; July 8 - 13, 2017 $2,195.00
Tuition & Travel Protection Plan $129.00
Airfare & Shuttle Service $650.00
Total: $3,069.50
On Tuesday, March 7th, I presented to the owners/neighbor of Hook & Plow and its sister company, Hooked Poke Market, about my opportunity to attend the Junior National Leaders Conference. I proposed that in exchange for working on Saturdays at Hooked Poke Market, I will earn “work credits” that will go towards my sponsorship from the restaurant. My job responsibilities include prep work, making Spam musubi, serving, and cleaning. I will not use the stove. The owners, Brian and his wife Bree said “you are hired on the spot!” They said that was the fastest hiring decision they have ever made. They brought out champagne flutes and we all drank a non-alcoholic drink together. I will start on March 25th and will update you on my work experience.
I want to fulfill a challenge of raising $3,000 towards my goal of attending the Junior National Young Leaders Conference. Your financial support would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your Love and Support,
Max C. Saetia
