Today on April 20, 2020, I lost my father, Max Oscar Ortega. On March 29, we did a small celebration for my birthday, and I drove my dad to Overlook Hospital that night. I did not know that would be the last time I would see him. I didn’t get to say good bye. I just turned 18, and didn’t even get the chance to tell him, I was accepted and commit to Saint Peter’s University on a full ride. He won’t be able to see my graduate from high school and from college. He won’t be able to walk me down the aisle. I’m heartbroken. My dad was the one who earned money for our rent / bills... and as a family, we did not prepare for funeral arrangements. After calling several funeral homes, we were given the estimate of $9,000.00 to $10,000.00 if we wanted to have a burial, a small memorial with less than 10 people, tombstone, and the lot at the graveyard. For a cremation with no service, the estimate was $3,500.00 to $4,000.00. My dad was Catholic, and while we would prefer to have the memorial and burial, we cannot afford it. I want to raise money to be able to properly say good bye to my dad. All money raised would go to his funeral arrangements. I need all the help I can get.
