Max needs surgery to save his life

To know my sister Laurie is to also know her beautiful pup Max. This adventurous, funny, happy, athletic boy, so full of personality, is her constant companion, adventure buddy and one of her best friends. With great sadness, we learned that he has a condition that will kill him if he doesn't get surgery.

A few weeks ago Laurie noticed blood in Max's urine. After a number of blood panels and a scan, costing more than $1000.00, the vet determined that Max has a tumor (non -cancerous) on his parathyroid gland causing too much calcium in his body, and right now it's causing small stones to form in his bladder. This is why there is blood when he urinates. It will only get worse if she doesn't take care of this soon. Eventually the excessive calcium in his bloodstream will cause more and larger calcium stones, his organs - such as his kidneys will fail and he'll suffer from neurological issues - such as seizures, confusion and loss of balance.
After doing a lot of research and realizing that the surgery to remove the tumor/gland has a very high success rate, Laurie took Max to see a specialist last Friday who looked at Max's scan and blood work and recommended that Laurie get the surgery for him within the next few weeks. Since Max is absolutely terrified of going to the vet, the doctor said they will do the neck scan and the surgery on the same day. The doctor recently performed the same surgery successfully on a dog a few weeks ago and for dogs who get the surgery, the prognosis is generally excellent. There will also be a couple of follow-up appointments to ensure his full recovery.
Everyone who knows Max loves him and he loves his "pack". None of us can imagine watching him deteriorate and die from this condition. He is a part of our extended family, and we know that Laurie will be absolutely heartbroken and devastated to lose her boy in this way.
We deeply appreciate anything you can give and we know that Laurie will be forever grateful.
