We write this letter in hopes you will be able to help out this family financially (our cousins). You see, they recently lost both their parents and are suddenly orphans. Jenny Fernandez, who just turned 18 years old, & her brother Juanito Fernandez who is 13 years old.

They were left financially destitute. And the land they live on has a hut in such bad shape. The rooms and kitchen are built with cardboard boxes and some wood; the entire ceiling is falling apart and will most likely collapse from the downpours during this rainy season. The bathroom is the only room made of cement, but it’s separated from the rest of the house.

The cost to buy a little lot & build a little house is too difficult to calculate. But based on rough estimates and quotes from our architect friend, who will be donating the blueprints and his time, we would say it would come to about

$500,000 MN pesos, roughly $25,000 in US dollars, would be for a basic dwelling.

Jenny wants to become a nurse; a school close to her home in Los Reyes, Michoacán, would cost about $2,000 MN pesos (about USD 100) per month for tuition, plus bus fare. The school is a 3.5-year program.

Juanito wants to become a Veterinary Zootechnist. He wants to live with his sister, no one else. Jenny always looks out for him, ensuring he eats and has what he needs. Juanito is a brilliant student; he does not need much help with school work. However, Jenny is always ready to help with his homework when required.

Jenny will make sure to drop Juanito off at school before she goes off to her classes and have him wait at school for her to pick him up after school. She will be his sole guardian.

Jenny has a heart problem, which is genetic, which is what her mom died of. She will need a pacemaker sooner than not. The surgery is currently on standby because she has to gather blood donors; she needs 8 units of blood type: 0 (RH negative), and now ONLY has 2 units.

Please donate to Guadalajara’s IMSS, where the surgery will occur if you have the same blood type. You will need to request the Official Letter be emailed to you with Jenny's info from the contact on this GoFundMe account…once she has the donors, she’ll be scheduled for open-heart surgery. The IMSS covers the actual cost of the surgery. However, she needs money for all her follow-up trips and to buy medicines not covered by IMSS.

Mariela and her family (dear family friends who have stepped in to help during this tragedy) care and will care for Jenny and Juanito during Jenny’s hospitalization. Jenny’s mother entrusted their care to Mariela, so she will continue to care for them in hopes a home is built for them and once they can care for themselves.

Jenny has a part-time job and has opened a savings account; her part-time job will not cover the expenses necessary for a home.

It’s hard to add up all the overhead costs since so many expenses are unaccounted for.

Escribimos esta carta con la esperanza de que puedan ayudar económicamente a esta familia (nuestros primos), ya que repentinamente perdieron a ambos padres y se quedaron huérfanos. Jenny Fernández, quien acaba de cumplir 18 años y su hermano Juanito Fernández, de 13.

Los chicos quedaron económicamente desamparados y el terreno en el que viven tiene una casita en muy malas condiciones. Los cuartos y la cocina son de cartón y madera; todo el tejado se está cayendo, lo más seguro es que no aguante estas lluvias. El baño es el único cuarto hecho de cemento, separado del resto de la casita y en obra negra.

El dinero que se necesita para comprar un lote chico y construir una casita es difícil de calcular. Pero basándonos en cálculos aproximados de un amigo arquitecto, quien va a donar los planos y su tiempo, estimamos que va a costar alrededor de $500,000 pesos mexicanos; más o menos $25,000.00 dólares. Esto sería para una casita muy básica.

Jenny quiere ser enfermera, hay una escuela cerca de su casa en Los Reyes, Michoacán que cobra $2,000 pesos (como $100 dólares) por mes de colegiatura, más lo del camión. Es un programa de 3.5 años.

Juanito quiere ser veterinario zootecnista. Desea vivir con su hermana solamente. Jenny siempre está al pendiente de él, viendo que coma y tenga lo necesario. Juanito es muy inteligente y buen estudiante, no necesita mucha ayuda con su tarea, sin embargo Jenny siempre está dispuesta a ayudar si fuera necesario.

Sus planes son que Jenny deje a Juanito en la escuela por las mañanas antes de irse a sus clases de enfermería; a la salida, Juanito la esperaría en la escuela hasta que ella lo recoja. Jenny será su guardián legal único.

Jenny tiene un problema genético del corazón, su mama recién murió de lo mismo. Ella necesita un marcapasos, lo antes posible pero no pueden programar la cirugía hasta encontrar donadores de sangre. Necesita 8 unidades de sangre tipo 0 (RH negativa) y actualmente solo tiene 2 unidades.

Si desean donar y tienen el mismo tipo de sangre, pueden acudir al IMSS de Guadalajara, donde se va a llevar a cabo la cirugía. Solo necesitan un oficio con la información de Jenny el cual se les hará llegar por email poniéndose en contacto la persona encargada de esta cuenta de GoFundMe. Ya que tenga las 8 unidades, podrán programarla para cirugía de corazón abierto.

No tendrá que pagar la cirugía ya que se hará en el IMSS, sin embargo necesitará para los gastos de traslado y las medicinas que no cubre el IMSS.

Mariela y su familia son amigos muy queridos de la familia de Jenny, han sido quienes los han ayudado tanto durante esta tragedia; actualmente cuidan y cuidaran a Jenny y a Juanito durante la hospitalización de Jenny. La mamá de Jenny le pidió a Mariela se encargarán de ellos, y continuarán cuidando de ellos hasta que primero Dios se construya la casita y puedan mantenerse por ellos mismos.

Por el momento Jenny tiene un trabajo de medio tiempo, y acaba de abrir una cuenta de ahorros bancaria. Sin embargo, éste aún no alcanza para cubrir sus gastos básicos.

Es difícil calcular todos los gastos antes mencionados ya que existen muchos que no conocemos. Por eso les pedimos su ayuda, toda aportación cuenta.
