Dr Max Darby Memorial Fund

It is with great sadness we share that our passionate and committed Life Member and Education Guru Dr Max Darby passed away on 27 June 2022. Max is one of 16 Life Members and was part of a founding group that influenced the path of art education nationally and internationally.

Max was an integral part of our Art Education Victoria community. We wish to share our appreciation for a joyful life, a passionate and renowned arts educator, an artist, an author of Art Education textbooks, and an educator that has worked in government, non-government schools and in tertiary education.

Max kept in contact with ArtEdVic consistently over the years, even while he was in hospital emailing us, wishing us all the best and affirming what we are doing is of value – we loved getting all those encouraging and thoughtful words and thank him for believing in us over so many years.

This Fund will support the administration of the Dr Max Darby Memorial Lecture and support Art Educators to attend events/programs who are from the following priority groups:

- Educators from low socio-economic backgrounds (or working in low socio-economic schools including Regional schools in Victoria)

- First Nations/Aboriginal/Koorie Pre-Service Teachers and Art Educators

- Art Educators that are new to teaching art that have worked 2 yrs or less

- Art Educators from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds that have worked 5 yrs or less

- Art Educators working in Special Schools supporting children who have a disability

- Art Educators that are supporting or working with LGBTIQ+ young people (open to any sector including health services)

They hope that the people Max has made a difference to will also contribute something small or big to this Fund to support Art Education Victoria's work in preserving his legacy and to support the professional learning of other art educators, which Max was so passionate about and committed to."
