Limpylab Max

Max is only 23 months old but the poor lad hasn’t a good leg to stand on.
Born with bilateral hip dysplasia and bilateral elbow dysplasia.

We have so far been able to manage his condition with pain medication and weekly hydrotherapy at OpperationK9 He is happy and well but sadly his condition has progressed much more rapidly than we or his vets expected and so surgery is not only needed it is urgent
His knees are unable to support his weight, so cruciate failure is Imminent. His hip joints are no longer in the sockets as these have almost completely degenerated

We can keep him comfortable and happy for a while longer but without a series of surgeries, he will need to be put to sleep in the near future.

The first of the four operations he needs is a Tibial-plateau-leveling osteotomy on his right knee. This took take place on 23rd Feb at Aldgate Veterinary Hospital in Bridlington his other knee will need the same op shortly but thankfully it’s not as urgent

With his hip joints no longer being in a socket hip replacement has become time-dependent as the risk of the operation failing increases the longer the joint is out of position. This will rule the surgical option out very soon

The estimated cost of the four surgeries are

TPLO (knee surgery), per knee= £3200
Total hip replacement, per hip= £6500
Total cost £19.400
Then there is the ongoing pain medication and hydrotherapy which will be around £80 a week.

Max is very lucky he came to us from a fantastic charity Labrador Welfare. He is a sponsor dog so they will cover the cost of all his treatments.
This is a massive commitment for such a small charity especially as they support many other sponsor dogs they pay for treatment for.

We therefore fundraising to at least replace the funds Labrador Welfare spend on Max so they can save other dogs
Fortunately, Max has to have one surgery at a time so we can aim for a series of smaller targets
We are starting with a target of £4000 for the first operation and aftercare.

Please if you can help Max and the charity supporting him and so many other dogs in need.

More information about Labrador Welfare: Labrador Welfare is a small, breed-specific registered charity (No 1012192), based in Sheffield (UK) run entirely by a dedicated group of unpaid volunteers who work hard to rescue and rehome Labrador Retrievers that, through no fault of their own need new homes.
Unlike larger rehoming organisations, we have no paid staff. As a small charitable organisation, we rely on donations and the goodwill of our volunteers, helpers and fundraisers to continue our work to help dogs find new homes.
