Mav Crushing Cancer!

Just before Maverick's 11th birthday he was diagnosed with cancer, at the end of May this year. It was first found on his thyroid, following a second ultrasound we were told it was also found in his lympnodes. He then had a biopsy which told us it was not only malignant but had also metastasized. He then needed a CT scan to see if had spread further, and the CT showed it had spread to the top of his lungs. We are headed to surgery to have his thyroid removed. As well, we found out today that he will also need all of the lymphnodes (well over 100 nodes) on the left side of his neck removed. This has changed his surgery from four hours to eight hours or more. Following surgery, he will then begin radiation treatment to try and deal with his lungs, and possibly chemo after that, depending on radiation results.

Mav's summer was filled with almost weekly trips to McMaster Childrens Hospital; which included numerous blood draws, ultrasounds, scans, biopsy, and a throat scope. We found out today there will be many more appts than we had originally been told. Especially following his surgery and into treatment.

We initally had no intention of asking for any help because of our Healthcare. However, with appointments becoming more often, we are turning to friends and family to ask for your help as costs are mounting. I will apologize in advance but we didnt expect it to cost so much.

Jason has already used most of his holiday and sick days throughout the summer. With his surgery coming days off will be needed to be with Mav in hospital. As well as daily trips to and from Mac to take care of our other kids at night and get them to and from school. After that we have his treatment days as well as some overnight stays in which we will need a hotel.

I know times are tough for everyone right now, so again, we're sorry for asking, it's not something we wanted or expected to do or need. Also the amount of support, love, offers of dinners, shoulders to cry on and encouraging words, its truly appreciated and again, we can't give enough thanks.
