Dear family and friends,

I am very excited to share that after 22 years, I have found an opportunity to finally visit my village in Mexico this summer. I haven’t seen my village since I was four, but now at 26, I have found a way to legally visit my birthplace and move one step closer to legal residency in the U.S.

Since I was a kid, I would sit in class, daydreaming what it would feel like to not have to worry about deportation. Wondering what seeing my village and family would even feel like? Finally, after much research, I was able to apply to a fellowship that would allow me to achieve this dream. I was accepted into the “Cultural Leadership Fellowship” (CLF) program!

As a part of the program, I would first visit South Africa to learn about its rich history and culture, and their continued fight for justice after the abolishment of apartheid in 1994. I will also be able to visit Mexico to conduct an ethnography. This experience will help heal a deep childhood trauma, help me drastically in my green card process, and advance my life goal of making this country a more just nation for all.

Currently, my last entry into the U.S is considered an “unlawful” entry. According to the U.S government, when I was four years old, I broke the law, and I was barred from a safe green card process. This unlawful status would require me to self deport for the chance at a green card.

However, with this fellowship, I can leave and return to the U.S with a government travel document called “Advance Parole”. Advance Parole allows DACA recipients like myself to leave and return to the U.S legally, on the basis of humanitarian, educational, or work purposes. This fellowship allows me to travel on the basis of education. With this legal exit and re-entry, my “unlawful” status would go away, and I can apply for a green card without risking deportation.

This life changing opportunity is not cheap. The program fee, Advance Parole application, and flights, come up to about $6,500. I am reaching out to my community and network for help to fund this pivotal moment in my life. Thank you for reading and supporting my dreams.

Estoy muy emocionado por compartir, que después de 22 años, encontré una oportunidad para finalmente visitar mi pueblo natal en México este verano. No he visto mi pueblo desde que tenía cuatro años, pero ahora a los 26, he encontrado una manera de visitar mi lugar de nacimiento legalmente, y dar un paso más hacia la residencia legal en los Estados Unidos.

Desde muy joven, me sentaba en clase, soñando cómo se sentiría no temer la deportación. ¿Imaginaba, cómo sería ver mi pueblo y a mi familia? Finalmente, después de mucha investigación, me apliqué a una asociación de liderazgo que me permitiría cumplir este sueño. ¡Fui aceptado en el programa "Cultural Leadership Fellowship" (CLF)!

Como parte del programa, primero visitaría Sudáfrica para aprender sobre su rica historia y cultura, y su lucha continua por la justicia después de la abolición del apartheid en 1994. También podré visitar México para realizar una etnografía. Esta experiencia ayudará a sanar un trauma profundo de la infancia, me ayudará drásticamente en mi proceso de tarjeta de residencia y avanzará mi meta de vida de hacer los Estados Unidos una nación más justa para todos.

Actualmente, mi última entrada a los Estados Unidos se considera una entrada "ilegal". Según el gobierno de los Estados Unidos, cuando yo tenía cuatro años, rompí la ley y me prohibieron un proceso seguro de residencia legal. Este estatus ilegal hace que me tenga que auto-deportar por la posibilidad de obtener residencia legal.

Sin embargo, con esta asociación, puedo salir y regresar a los Estados Unidos con un documento de viaje gubernamental llamado "Advance Parole". Advance Parole permite a gente con DACA como yo salir y regresar a los Estados Unidos legalmente, en base de razones humanitarias, educativas o laborales. Este programa me permite viajar por razones de educación. Con esta salida y regreso legal, mi estatus "ilegal" desaparecería y podría solicitar una Tarjeta de Residente Permanente sin riesgo de deportación.

Esta oportunidad que cambiará mi vida no es barata. La tarifa del programa, la solicitud de Advance Parole y los vuelos suman aproximadamente $6,500. Estoy buscando la ayuda de mi comunidad y red de contactos para financiar este momento crucial en mi vida. Gracias por leer y apoyar mis sueños.
