Want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money to benefit two Beat the Streets Providence student- athletes.

-These Student-Athletes joined in the program in 6th Grade.

-They are our go to Kids for any support needed (Mat moving, Volunteering, coaching, Bts fundraisers & events)

-Have been traveling to practice and were involved in a mentoring program (W/ No risk Sports before second covid lockdown, exploring healthy habits and college.)

-Goals of this trip is to give these two a chance to compete and allow them to have a chance to get recruited. No guarantee for a high school wrestling season. Two who are ready to compete at the national level.

-Carry core values of BTS Providence.

A note from Nicholas:
This opportunity in my eyes comes once in a lifetime. To go to Tulsa Oklahoma to wrestle would change my life in so many ways. This moment would allow me to show college coaches what I’m about. If I perform well I will be getting looked at by coaches and college teams that might want to recruit me. To be recruited by a Division 1 school would be a blessing. Tournaments like these are what can allow colleges and universities to have interest in me. I am more than grateful for this chance presented to me and I can’t imagine how cool it would be to get recruited, let alone wrestle at the Reno world championship. This trip could be my way out of Providence and have a great future. Once I get into the college I want, I will  graduate and have a great degree. Then I can pursue a career, help my family and change the world. That would set me up for success and it would all be because of this once in a lifetime opportunity.

During this pandemic I have developed and grown in several ways. These hard times have opened my eyes and encouraged me to spend more time with the people I love. To also work even harder than I ever have before. It has encouraged me to work hard in school, work hard in wrestling, and work hard on myself. This virus is often looked at as a curse but I look at it as a blessing in disguise. The reason why is because it changed the pace of the world and really gave people the chance to sit and think about their life and how they can continue to better themselves. I think it has pros and cons and I know this from personal experience. I have lost 3 family members due to the pandemic and that brought me to a dark place where I never thought things could get any better. I matured from the experience and learned to take things more seriously and learned to spend more time with loved ones because you never know when they're going to leave this earth. I also learned to take school more seriously because this pandemic is causing kids all around the country to be depressed and fail school. I set out goals for myself when the school year started and I keep that goal in mind everyday. So far I am accomplishing my academic goals and am achieving hIgh honor roll and I’m not stopping there. This pandemic also put a pause on what I love to do which is wrestle. Months without wrestling really affected me. Now I am very grateful to say that I am back on the mat in a COVID safe club called Mayo Quanchi that allows me to work on my craft and be with my teammates. That break and pause humbled me to be grateful for wrestling and appreciate it more. It showed me what life without wrestling is like. I didn't not enjoy it. To sum up how these hard times helped me grow and develop. It taught me to appreciate spending time with family and friends, appreciate the privilege of winter sports and appreciate the in-person assistance from my guidance counselors and teachers in school.

A note from Maurice:
During this Pandemic I went through a lot of very tough times. I have made many sacrifices and done all that I can to stay positive. Since school has started this year I have been switched to all virtual classes and that has been very difficult for me for the past few months. I tend to get distracted from time to time and not always do my best on my work because sitting in front of a computer for 7 hours is not easy. Not having a wrestling season or knowing I may not be able to compete at wrestling tournaments creates emptiness in my life. I still love to work towards my goals and continue to train. For me, I need to stay motivated and consistent. I am really thankful to have coaches and mentors that push me to be independent to get myself to practice everyday. I have some of my teammates that I push to join my journey to practice. Having teammates along my side also keeps me motivated and pushes me to do better in my academics. This opportunity is giving me the chance to travel around the world and compete against other kids who have different styles of wrestling outside of New England. Now having a competition to look forward to, I am even more motivated because I finally know I can show our community what I have been up to since March! Opportunities like this one don't come around very often, so I would not want to pass this opportunity up. This can be a good experience and I could show the world what Rhode Island wrestling has to offer.
In my time training I have been able to be around successful people. This is helping me to continue my work in being a great student - athlete and also developing me into an even better human. Being able to be around great teachers, mentors, coaches, wrestlers, parents, police officers, and veterans has definitely changed my mindset , helped me make important adjustments, decisions and has impacted my goals. During this pandemic, I can say that I’m even more grateful to be able to have accomplished people around me so I could learn from their mistakes and decisions they have made.
