Maureen needs your help to drastically change her quality of life for the better. If you know Maureen, you know that she is an incredibly loving, artistic and caring mother, wife, friend, and community member. She centres her life in gratitude, beauty and justice and, until her health issues worsened, was active in working for a better world.
But health issues have hit her hard and it has impacted her and her family greatly. Over the past several years, because of multiple health issues, including progressive multiple sclerosis (MS), complex brain injuries and a C1, C2 injury that has resulted in permanent instability and injury to her brain stem, Maureen has been confined mostly to a hospital bed and has been reliant on family and PSWs, to help her with everything.
This could all change because of your generosity. Maureen has fought hard to get her health to a place where she can use a specialized wheelchair. This life-changing support will allow her to live more independently, reduce pain, spams and pressure sores, interact more with friends and family more, reduce risk of choking and passing out, and increase her quality of life dramatically.
Unfortunately, the chair is incredibly expensive — over $26,000. This is because she has special needs including a power tilt that will allow her to reposition herself regularly. Much of this cost should be covered, but she will still be responsible for between $7500 and $16500 depending on the coverage she receives.
This is why she needs your help. By donating you will be helping an amazing person live a much better life. Every dollar helps and we are so grateful for your support.
We have set the fundraiser to $8000 to start to ensure that we are also covering any fees that come from GoFundMe and from credit card charges etc. If it turns out she's not covered for as much, we will increase the goal to $17000 at that time.
Thank you for your generous support
