Maui was attacked and needs help!

Today, something horrific happened.
My dad's cat (well he is is the family cat, but Maui loves only my dad) Maui was attacked by a neighbor's dog. Maui, being the push-over, bottle fed suitie-pie, didn't stand much a chance against the neighbor's aggressive dog.
Maui is an indoor out door cat who loves to patrol his yard and neighborhood. (we've tried to make him an indoor cat but he just hates it) After 3 years of this behavior Maui came home limping and crying for help 15 minuets after hearing a fight between a dog an cat. I was in my room when I heard my dad hopelessly cry out. There are a few sounds that chill you too the core, but that was one of them. It will haunt me forever.
I ran over to see my dad crying with Maui in his arms, half of his paw missing, the rest a mangled mess. I've been in the veterinary field for a few years, but all that experience flew out the window and and I called the nearest vet hospital. After being turned away by the first vet, we got him to ACCESS emergency vet. He is currently sedated and on heavy pain medication. They are going to clean his wound and take x-rays as soon as he is remotely comfortable. The surgeon will look at his x-rays tomorrow morning and get back to me. They may try limb recovery if anything is salvageable. Or they may need to amputate his entire leg or just below his wirst. We just don't know yet.
My mother decided to go over to the neighbors house to talk and was immediately met with hostility and "Well your cat was in OUR yard" True but he has been there for three years. Apparently the dog had to be thrown out into the yard because he was aggressive and they had a plumber at the house. So most likely, the dog was agitated and took that anger out on Maui. They knew their dog was the cause of our cat having to go to emergency and had little sympathy and basically slammed the door in my mom's face.
Here is the problem. MONEY. My family and I have always been strapped for money. My brother, who is autistic, requires expensive medication and its just expensive to live. My father is the kind of person who will do anything for anyone no matter what. He is so giving, even if it means his own financial ruin. My father has put me though college even though it wasn't exactly financially possible. So, I cannot let him go into financial ruin over Maui. If I could pay for it all, I would. But being a broke college student, it just isn't possible. And we just don't have that kind of money to throw around.
Maui is truly my father's best friend. They let us go see him in the back because he was too painful to move. As soon as he heard my dad's voice, he cried out for his daddy. He cries for him every time my dad comes home. Maui curls up in my dad's lap every night and the two got even closer after my dad had a stroke last year. Maui takes care of my dad and vice versa. I rescued maui at 2 months old three years ago and gave him to my dad as a birthday present, a year after having to put down out 20 year old cat Valentine. My dad was so happy he cried. Today, there was different crying going on.
The bill for today was $2300. Not including the surgery or recovery tomorrow or following days. I know my dad will do whatever he can, but if it gets to be over a certain amount, Maui will have to be put down or we will be in financial ruin. I cannot let either happen!!! Both will destroy my father and my family. PLEASE HELP US.
After all my father has been through, he deserves to keep his best friend alive and not have to sacrifice his family's financial security to do so. So anything will help ESPECIALLY PRAYERS. Please help us. I want to help my father after all he has done for me and my family and Maui deserves to live his long life out INDOORS.
I will update this as soon as I know anything, but right now, I am completely helpless. I miss and worry about my cat. seeing my dad so upset is destroying me and braking my heart. My other cat Anakin is looking around the house for his friend.
This is the worst place to be in. PLEASE HELP US SAVE MAUI AND MY DAD'S HEART.
