My little 3 year old French Bulldog, Maui, went out to the backyard on Monday morning and after calling him to come inside we heard no response. I looked all over the house and kept calling him in the yard, but heard nothing (his little bells on his collar usually make noise so I know where he is). I had assumed that he escaped even though my yard is fenced in. At that point I started panicking and searching all over the back yard... and eventually found him sitting, unable to move, behind my greenhouse. He was panting and had lost function of his hind legs. I immediately took him to the emergency vet and he was diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD).
He went into surgery on Wednesday May 20th and will be staying at the vet for a few more days until he regains some mobility and/or the ability to urinate on his own.
There is a 90 per cent chance of recovery and I am staying very hopeful. He will have to remain in a crate full time for the next two months and only be taken out for necessities such as urination. It is going to be extremely difficult for us as Maui is a very active dog, he has been given the nickname "Maniac" and he just loves to play!
I am asking for help as the surgery is $11,300 and I also have additional vet, medicine and expenses to make him more comfortable for the next two months. Every dollar will help during this difficult time! I appreciate you taking the time to listen to our story and also appreciate all of the messages that we have already received!!! We have received so many messages of love, concern, advice and hope.
