Maui Fire Relief at Mohala: Help Rebuild Lives
Donation protected
Dear friends and family,
Maui is currently facing a devastating crisis of fires across the island. The historic town of Lahaina has burned to the ground, hundreds of lives have been lost, 8,000 people have become homeless overnight, and firefighting efforts continue on the west side and upcountry. The water supply upcountry and on the west side has been contaminated, affecting thousands of families' access to water for bathing, drinking, and cooking. The impact of this tragedy is far-reaching, including impending long-term economic impacts for the island. We are determined to make a difference in the lives of those affected.
Our commitment to support the community has led us to open the doors of our home in Haiku (which has gratefully been spared on all fronts) to provide shelter for individuals who have been displaced. This decision comes with sacrifices, including the cancellation of scheduled events at our wellness space this month. Our focus now is on facilitating healing and recovery for those who have lost their homes. However, we can't do this alone.
The expenses associated with providing these rooms and the high overhead costs extend beyond what we have personally to contribute. We are reaching out to you with a humble request for support. Your donations will not only sustain our efforts here but also enable us to extend our service to other areas of the island and open our doors wider to those in need. We are actively engaged in providing housing, food, assistance, and mental and physical healing support to the individuals we are hosting in our home.
Rest assured that every dollar you contribute will go directly towards supporting the individuals staying with us at Mohala, and the extended community in need through events and services on site. Donations will cover the cost of rooms being used for shelter (at cost, no profit received), the added cost of household utilities, food for those we are hosting, and essential support services for them. Any excess abundance of funds received will be distributed directly to families who lost everything in the fire to support their journey to recovery, or trusted efforts to feed and house, led by our immediate community network.
We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to give back to our community and uplift those who are facing immense challenges. Your generosity empowers us to continue serving the island through volunteer efforts at Mohala, through residential services, as well as the creation of free healing events to support nervous system regulation for fire victims, first responders, and crisis volunteers who also need support to be able to continue serving for the long haul.
This special property is a refuge and safe haven for the affected community as a whole to come together for prayer and healing.
Together, we can make a positive impact during this difficult time.
Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and support.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Jennifer, Jessica, Michael, and the Mohala Ohana
