Teacher & Family Man Injured, Permanently Disabled
Donation protected
Fifteen years ago, Social Studies teacher Ron Matusovich attempted to keep his students safe during a fight. Unfortunately, he was shoved and injured. He had to have a knee replacement, due to it shattering, and contracted the bacterial infection MRSA. Since then, the infection has taken over his body and disabled him for the rest of his life. He has had to endure over 10 surgeries and numerous stays at rehabilitation facilities. Ron has had a knee replacement, knee revision, two shoulder replacements, and three toe amputations. Doctors were unable to save his shoulders. He now lives without them, severely limiting his movement. Recently, his knee replacement was also affected by the infection. Doctors are now considering a leg amputation.
Ron Matusovich has always been a family-oriented man. He dedicated his life to his family and community. He was physically active, lifting weights and making it a point to be involved in his children’s extracurricular activities. The Matusovich family often vacationed, taking their children to Disney and on cruises, for example. Ron coached the Little League softball and basketball teams for boys and girls. He never missed a game! Family events have always been important to him. Ron’s happiest times have always been with his loved ones.
This has taken and emotional and financial toll on the family over the years. His wife Denise, who struggles with Multiple Sclerosis, has been overworking herself to keep their household afloat. Ron can no longer walk. They live on a second floor, so they have to get a chair lift installed. The chair lift alone is estimated at $3,500.00, minimum. There is no way they can afford this. Additionally, many modifications have to be made to their home, so that he can receive the most convenient care possible once he is discharged. Bathroom modifications are necessary, such as a barrier-free tub, and are estimated at $5,000.00. Ron will also have to have a wheelchair now that he will be permanently immobile.
Ron’s wife Denise is my best friend. Over the years, I have always invited them to my gatherings, and he has made it a point to try to attend with her, even when he clearly wasn’t feeling well. That meant so much to me and showed his strength of character. He is an intelligent, kind, giving person. My own family also loves him – The Matusovich family has become a part of my family as well. I was prompted to do this, because I have seen firsthand the nightmare they have been living for several years now. I know that many people will likely want to help them. Please consider contributing to Ron’s care. Any amount is helpful and greatly appreciated.
