Matty’s Medical Expenses

The past 6 months have been a whirlwind for Matty and his family. Matty’s mother, Lynn, openly shares their story on social media and is truly one of the strongest women I know.

Stressors include back and forth trips to CHOP and trial treatments with minimal answers. Among all the stress, the Mursch’s have been forced to cover thousands of dollars in medical bills as insurance is labeling this “unnecessary.”

In February 2020, Matty was diagnosed with ALPS (Autoimmune lymphoproliferative Syndrome). ALPS is a disorder in which the body cannot properly regulate the number of immune system cells. In Matthew’s case, his body destroys his white blood cells and platelets. He is always neutropenic and has strict protocol when he gets a fever or any type of sickness. He has recently had an infusion treatment called IVIG which was denied by both insurances. He has had more and more issues with dropping levels and medications not working for him. He has been taken off some medications and now waiting for answers after more testing next week at CHOP.
