Matty the Marvel

Hi my name is Amy and I want you to meet Matty, he is 6 years old. (Actually 6 1/2 which is VERY important!) Matty was diagnosed with CVS when he was a baby which is basically migraines in his stomach.

Not only does he have the pain that a migraine brings but he will vomit continually as well. Despite this he is an absolute trooper! He is always smiling and happy between episodes.

 

However about 9 days ago they started to get worse. The pain was not being controlled by normal pain meds and the vomiting started to occur every night. Last week an MRI was done and his parents received the worst news.

Matty has a tumour growing in the pineal region of his brain. It was blocking his spinal cord and causing cerebrospinal fluid to build up in his skull. The poor kids head was literally feeling like it was going to explode. Emergency surgery was scheduled for the next day to relieve the pressure. They also found that he has Hydrocephalus which causes an excess of cerebral fluid.

 

 

He is getting a VP shunt fitted for hydrocephalus this week to help with his fluid build up. It will be in there for life and will require monitoring.

Matty's mum Bron is staying at the hospital with him and Mattys dad Brian will keep working for now. But they also have twins that will require looking after as well. They had not even thought of asking for money, but I really want this amazing family to be able to spend as much time as possible with Matty at the hospital and also for his siblings Jack and Charlotte to have their parents around too. If we can all help out for a few months of living expenses we can make this happen for them.

 

We don't know the long term prognosis or what treatments are going to be required for his tumour. We will know more hopefully by the end of this month. But Matty is a marvel with his good humour and cheeky smile. He keeps all of us laughing and is absolutely inspiring.
