Dear Friends and Family,
In October of 2015, my brother Matt was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. As you can imagine, this has been an extremely difficult time for my family. Cancer doesn’t discriminate even against the ones we care the most about. It's such a helpless feeling to watch someone you love live through such a physically and emotionally devastating experience.
Matt will have at least 4 months of chemotherapy and then radiation. After the first round of chemo, he encountered some obstacles. His white blood cell count became dangerously low. In order to counteract this, he has to give himself injections of Neupogen. Although the injections seem to be working, they cause severe bone pain. After the second round of chemo, Matt had swelling in the wall of his vein and developed a blood clot. They started him on blood thinners and has to continue to closely monitor his blood counts. In December, he had surgery to put in a portacath. A couple days later he was hospitalized due to his low white blood cell levels causing him to spike a fever. Even through the setbacks and common effects of chemo, Matt has kept a positive attitude. He won’t let cancer define him and refuses to stop fighting.
We are very thankful that the survival rate for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is very high, although it is going to be a long road of chemotherapy and then radiation. Anyone that knows Matt knows that he is always there to lend a helping hand, yet he doesn’t ask for help very often. Unfortunately, at this time he has to accept the help that is being offered to him and his family. Since Matt is unable to work during this time, we are asking for your generosity. Any money raised from this site will be used to cover his ongoing medical expenses and cost of treatments. The support that my family has received has been overwhelming and extremely humbling.
Please continue to reach out to him with words of encouragement, positive energy, or just to say “hi”. The littlest gestures are greatly appreciated.
Thank you from the entire Stanley family
