Have you ever had a single moment that changed the course of your life forever?

Sept 2, 2020 was Matt and Summer's moment.  They were your regular, average family: living the quarantine life, working from home and distance learning with the kids. Matt was working part time at the church and thanks to Covid, had been laid off from his teaching position, instructing literacy to english learning students.

For several months, Matt had been feeling unwell and just not himself.  He was having headaches, malaise,  fatigue, feeling depressed. In June, he began having debilitating migraines and blurry vision. More recently, he started having weakness in his right leg and difficulty with word finding.

Matt had seen several doctors without any relief or results and the symptoms were rapidly changing. On Aug 28th he saw a nurse practitioner who ordered an MRI and a neurological consultation. Sept 2nd he had his MRI. The results were much more than they expected. The MRI showed a large mass (about the size of an adult fist) on the left side of his brain. The mass was pushing towards the right side of his brain, causing the right leg weakness and word finding issues. He was immediately admitted to AGCH ER and a plan was put into action to transfer him to Stanford Hospital by ambulance that night. At Stanford, Matt was placed into the Neuro ICU and was scheduled for surgery the next day to remove the tumor.  During the surgery, it was discovered that the tumor had invaded the brain and that only 50% could be removed due to the proximity to the speech center of his brain.  A sample was sent to pathology to identify the type of tumor. The results should be back in about two weeks and then they will come up with a plan to continue treatment with chemo and radiation.

Matt is healing well after his surgery. He began receiving OT, PT and Speech at Stanford. On Tues. Sept. 8th, he was transferred to Arroyo Grande Acute Rehabilitation Center for continued therapy.  He will be here for several days working to regain strength, coordination, endurance and cognition. Sorry. Due to Covid, he will not be able to have any visitors while in rehab.

And now we come to the part where I let you know of their needs.
We are asking first for prayers. We know that God is the Great Physician and he will bring Matt and Summer through this time, stronger and more committed to Him. Also, pray for peace, freedom from fear, complete healing and wisdom for the doctors, nurses, therapists, family and friends.

Next, they are asking for your patience. We will send out updates as often as we can. As you can imagine, this is a very stressful time for both Matt and Summer. We will let you know when we know... that's the best we can do.

Finally, they are in need of some help with financial support. We have no idea how long this will affect Matt's health and ability to work.  He does not have disability benefits, therefore, Matt's primary source of income is now gone.  Summer works from home as well as being a homemaker and has recently started working with Bennett and Vivi with their online schooling.  When Matt is released from rehab, Summer will now also take on the role as caregiver and chauffeur.

Thank you in advance for your prayers, support and financial gifts. The future is unknown, but we trust in God to provide and bring Matt through these unsettling times.
