Thanksgiving is a day where we are supposed to give thanks for our blessings. For Matt Zwoboda and his family, it will now be remembered as the holiday that their entire world was turned upside down. Matt took a trip to the emergency room for what he thought was a muscle injury, but turned out to be a diagnosis of stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer.
Matt is only 36 years old. He is the father to two young boys, age 14 and 3. He decided to marry his long time girlfriend after his diagnosis, but what should have been a magical day was met with tragedy as had their thanksgiving. Matt had fallen ill and was unable to even stand. They said their vows as a family member was calling 911. Matt was carried out of his wedding by his groomsman and paramedics on a stretcher. He spent a week in St. Peter’s hospital and missed his first appointment with Sloan Kettering, a cancer hospital in NYC.
All of this is happening during the holiday season. Matt had his first chemo treatment the day after Christmas. While the holidays cause financial stress on everyone, adding in the cost of hospital stays and chemo on top of those expenses has a stronger hold.
Matts family has faith that though his diagnosis is grim, Matt will fight and he will beat all odds. Matt has spent his life bringing a smile to the face of those around him. He volunteered his time, worked with children at the local elementary school, and is an advocate for animals.
If anyone deserves a miracle to beat cancer, it is Matt. We are asking for the community to reach to the bottom of their hearts and imagine how it would feel to have your world come crashing down. Help Matt find his miracle by helping with his medical bills, travel expenses, and any other expenses that will help him beat cancer so he can watch his boys grow. All donations are appreciated.
