Imagine being a healthy 41-year-old, living life with few worries, with a wonderful and loving fiancé, being a productive member of society at work, enjoying ice hockey for fun, and being a devoted Boston Bruins fan. You care for your four-legged furry friends and reptiles with your whole life ahead of you. Then one day, you start to feel a heaviness on the right side of your body. This is what my friend Matt “Koffin” Cook experienced recently. In late April, he was diagnosed with stage 4, non-operable glioblastoma on the left side of his brain.
Matt is scheduled to undergo a complete regimen of chemotherapy and radiation to slow the progression of his tumor. He is also participating in physical therapy to regain strength and function in his limbs. Throughout this challenging time, Matt and Lindsey are managing to keep their spirits up, but they are unable to work due to the demands of this life-changing diagnosis. Lindsey will be his full-time caregiver and will take him to all of his appointments. Matt and Lindsey are humble and proud individuals who have not asked for help, but they will need assistance with financial matters in the coming months and years. All funds raised will go directly toward medical bills, rent, groceries, utilities, and other essential expenses. The costs for Matt's initial four-day hospital stay alone have exceeded $10,000. We humbly ask you to share their story with friends. Our local hockey community in Long Beach, CA, is hoping to gain traction and reach the global hockey community to help support Matt and Lindsey with the expected and unexpected financial burdens this diagnosis will certainly bring.
Please know that any contribution, no matter the size, is truly appreciated. If you'd like to make an independent contribution, feel free to contact me using the information below.
On behalf of Matt and Lindsey, I thank you in advance for any assistance you can offer.
