Matthias' HBOT Journey
Donation protected
On February 22, 2020, Matthias' life changed in the blink of an eye. He was apart of a violent car accident with his dad. He suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury and had a Stroke. He has Optic Nerve damage and is now blind in the right eye and has half of his vision in his left eye. The First Responders and his Riley Children's Hospital team were not sure if he was going to make it. After 5 surgeries to his head, he overcame the odds like a True Warrior. Matthias spent 88 days at Riley doing inpatient therapies in between all the surgeries. After working hard with his friends at Riley, he was able to come home. He continues to do therapies daily and has improved many skills such as walking, running, and getting more mobility back in his left arm and hand. The following articles are about on Matthias from Riley.

Before the accident Matthias loved playing travel baseball, school basketball, and football with his friends. He loves the Chicago Cubs and IU Basketball. His goal is to attend Indiana University and become a Neurosurgeon like his Best Friend Jeffrey(the Neuro Surgeon who saved his life). Matthias wants to save lives like his was saved. In order to achieve his goals we have to do everything possible to continue to get him better. We have a new opportunity that can help him.
Matthias has the opportunity to undergo Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Louisiana. He will go Monday - Friday, 1 hour a day for 8 weeks. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy(HBOT) will help his body's healing process. It will reduce swelling and increase the oxygen to his tissues, which will help his brain and other areas of his body heal. HBOT can help his motor skills, sensory, cognitive awareness, balance, and possibly bring back some vision in his left eye. For more information about the process and facility you can visit their website: https://hbot.com/
The 40 rounds of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is going to cost our family $13,000 just for treatment itself. Then we have to find a place to live in Louisiana during this time and all of the living and travel expenses will add up quickly. Any support regardless of size is so appreciated. Thank you for supporting Matthias as he works hard to continue his road of recovery.
