In Loving Memory, Matthew Steinberg

We met Matthew for the first time in 2014, as he was an addition to our reasonably new sleep-away camp bunk. Honestly, we have never met someone who would make as large of an impact on the world as he would. Then suddenly, on December 31, 2017 a catastrophic event stopped him from pursuing his dreams. Matthew along with his parents and siblings lost their lives in a tragic plane crash while on vacation in Costa Rica.

Matthew had an amazing love for musical intruments. We individually watched him learn each new string on the guitar, endlessly listen to Coldplay on his iPod, and beat me in 100 different card games. We are all so sorry that he is not able to fulfill the role that he played here on earth anymore.

Matthew always put people before himself, no matter the price he would have to pay. He regularly had a passion for helping others, especially helping others with music. We are so sorry that of anyone who could have died in that tragic Costa Rican plane crash, it was him. We were so lucky to have known you as a friend, a bunkmate, a songwriter, a musician, a community helper, and an artist.

So in his honor, we released balloons into the sky, and attached were cards containing our memories of him, and now the legacy that he leaves behind.

But that's just the beginning...
The money that we will raise together will go towards his #1 goal in life, and make it a reality because he can't. Matthew would have wanted to give instruments to children. Matthew would want to enable these kids to unleash the talent that wouldn't otherwise have been triggered, especially people of the struggling economic class where every penny counts.

So, in honor of our 14 year old friend Matthew Steinberg, the money raised will be donated to an incredible non-profit organization called "Hungry For Music " based in Washington, D.C. This foundation gives instruments to talented children who can't afford them on there own. This organization has helped shape these children, whose trajectory has been altered by the uplifting and life-changing gift of music.

This is what Matthew would have done if he were still alive. This is how we will keep Matthew's memory alive. This is how we will complete the task that he would have fulfilled back on earth.
